What item at Home, Inspires you?
A Surprise in the Front Room
As we stepped into the Pasadena estate sale home, we had just begun preparing for the estate sale. Furniture was still draped. Sunlight filtered through dusty windows. Everything was quiet—until the front window revealed something unexpected.
There stood a Jefferson lamp. Its base was softly tarnished brass. Its dome, elegantly painted, featured a charming autumn cottage scene. While we originally thought it was just another item to tag and move, we quickly realized this one was different.
A Message Left Behind
When we lifted the dome, we found it. A small, square note taped beneath the shade. It read:
“For the quiet evenings. May this light always lead someone home.”
Those few words carried the weight of a lifetime. The family wasn’t around to provide details—this estate had no direct heirs. Instead, it left behind objects, memories, and a few whispers of story.
A Life Reflected in a Lamp
After further searching, we found watercolor sketches tucked in a drawer. The style and scenes matched the lamp’s design almost perfectly. We now believe Mrs. Halperin either painted them herself with the lamp as inspiration or chose it as a daily reminder of her calm, creative joy.
This lamp wasn’t just décor—it was a piece of her daily life.
A New Chapter for an Old Light
That note transformed everything.
We decided not to move it. Not until we were ready to tell the story.
We straightened the note. Cleaned the dome. Polished the based. And for now—it was available, but with reverence.
For Sale – With Story. A special Pasadena Estate Sale Story.
Because while no one remained to keep it… someone may still be called to carry it forward.
To light their own quiet evenings on their way home.
